Abstract

This study examines the reconstruction of religious worldview through Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd’s hermeneutics, emphasizing the relationship between Qur’anic text, historical context, culture, and human interpretation. It aims to develop holistic, reconciliatory, and mediative paradigms for addressing contemporary religious challenges. Using qualitative library research, the study analyzes Abu Zayd’s Mafhūm al-Naṣṣ and Naqd al-Khiṭāb al-Dīnī through sociohistorical analysis, linguistic-hermeneutical analysis, and critical contextualization. The concepts of ma‘nā (meaning) and maghzā (significance) guide the examination of textual meaning and its contemporary relevance. The findings demonstrate that Abu Zayd’s hermeneutics provides an epistemological basis for relating Qur’anic text to historical and contemporary contexts while maintaining the normative dimension of revelation. The study proposes three characteristics of religious worldview: holistic, integrating theological, social, cultural, and human dimensions; reconciliatory, bridging text and context, tradition and modernity, and normativity and historicity; and mediative, connecting Qur’anic values with contemporary humanitarian concerns. These paradigms represent the study’s conceptual synthesis rather than Abu Zayd’s explicit categories. This framework contributes to developing a contextual, dialogical, and ethically responsible approach to contemporary religious understanding.
